Etosha to Caprivi & Victoria Falls: A 14-Day Self-Drive

This is one of Southern Africa's great road trips. You start among the salt pans and waterholes of Etosha, drive east into the green river country of the Caprivi Strip, explore Chobe's elephants and finish at the thundering Victoria Falls. Along the way you stay at the Gondwana Collection's lodges, each one hand-picked for its setting. It's three countries, four great rivers and a love story with Africa in two weeks.

Days 2–3

Southern Etosha: Etosha Safari Lodge

Spend a full day exploring the waterholes around Okaukuejo, then watch the sunset from the lodge deck. Prefer something simpler? Choose Etosha Safari Camp or Etosha Safari Camping2Go nearby. Day 5

The Okavango River: Hakusembe River Lodge

Head east, about 5 to 6 hours via Tsumeb and Grootfontein, to Hakusembe River Lodge, about 16 km west of Rundu on the Okavango River, with Angola on the opposite bank. Unwind with a sunset cruise.

Days 6–8

The Kwando River: Namushasha River Lodge

Drive east along the Caprivi, stopping at the rapids of Popa Falls and driving the Mahango loop in Bwabwata National Park, known for sable antelope, elephants and baobabs. Continue to Namushasha River Lodge, about 24 km south of Kongola on the Kwando River, for three nights. Join a guided game drive in Bwabwata, take boat cruises among elephants and hippos, visit the Namushasha Heritage Centre and explore Mudumu National Park. Keen 4x4 travellers can plan a visit to Nkasa Rupara in the dry season.

The Kwando and Chobe rivers draw huge elephant herds in the dry season.

Days 9–10

The Zambezi River: Zambezi Mubala Lodge

Drive about 2.5 to 3 hours via Katima Mulilo to Zambezi Mubala Lodge, about 40 km east of town on the banks of the Zambezi. Enjoy sunset and birding cruises, catch-and-release tiger fishing and, in season, a guided walk to a carmine bee-eater colony.

Days 11–12

The Chobe River: Chobe River Camp

A short drive brings you to Chobe River Camp, just a few kilometres from the Ngoma border, overlooking the Chobe floodplains. Take the camp's day trip into Botswana's Chobe National Park, with a morning boat cruise and an afternoon game drive among its famous elephant herds. See our Chobe River Birding Guide.

Days 13–14

Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Cross into Botswana at Ngoma, drive through to Kasane and cross the Kazungula border to Victoria Falls, about 150 km in total, plus time at the borders. Gondwana doesn't have a lodge at the Falls, so we'll book a hotel to suit your style. Walk the rainforest trail, take a Zambezi sunset cruise and fly home from Victoria Falls Airport. See things to do in Victoria Falls.

Short on time?

For 10 days, spend one night in Etosha and two at Namushasha, or start from Victoria Falls and drive the route in reverse, beginning at Chobe River Camp. You could also fly into the Caprivi and explore with a guide. See our Best Namibia Itineraries: 3, 5, 7 and 10 Days and Caprivi Strip Safari Guide.

Two weeks ago you watched lions at a waterhole on the dusty pans. Tonight, the spray of Victoria Falls drifts over your sundowner. Same journey, same love story, written across three countries.
