- Day 6: East coast, Jozani Forest and The Rock

Every love story has a setting. Some are written in cities, some in mountains. Yours might just be written in sand, salt and the slow golden light of a Zanzibar evening.
Day 1
Arrive in Stone Town: where the story begins
Your journey starts in Stone Town, Zanzibar's historic heart and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After you settle into your hotel, wander together through narrow streets lined with carved wooden doors, the scent of cardamom and coffee drifting from doorways.
As evening falls, head to the Forodhani Gardens night market on the waterfront. Share grilled seafood, sugarcane juice and a sweet "Zanzibar pizza" as the sun sets over the harbour.
Love story tip: Find a rooftop terrace for a sundowner before dinner. Stone Town's skyline at dusk, with its minarets and dhows in the harbour, is unforgettable.
Day 2
Hidden alleys and giant tortoises
Spend the morning on a guided Stone Town walking tour. Your guide will bring the island's past to life, from the old spice and trade routes to the stories behind its markets, palaces and sacred sites.
In the afternoon, take a short boat ride to Prison Island (Changuu), home to giant Aldabra tortoises, some of them more than a century old. There is something quietly romantic about meeting creatures that have watched generations of couples come and go.
Love story tip: Bring your swimwear. The clear water around the island is perfect for a swim before you sail back.
Day 3
Nakupenda sandbank: the island that says "I love you"
In Swahili, nakupenda means "I love you", and there could be no better name for this sandbank. It is a strip of pure white sand that appears in the middle of the turquoise ocean, a short boat ride from Stone Town.
Spend the day swimming, snorkelling and lying in the sun with nothing around you but sea and sky. Many trips include a fresh seafood lunch served right on the sand.
Love story tip: Planning a proposal? Nakupenda is one of the most romantic places on the island to ask the question. Tell us in advance, and we can help arrange the moment.
Day 4
A spice tour, then north to the beaches
Zanzibar is called the Spice Island for good reason. On a morning spice tour, you'll walk through farms growing cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla and lemongrass, tasting and smelling as you go. Expect to leave with a woven palm-leaf crown or ring, made for you on the spot by your guide.
After lunch, transfer to the north coast, where Nungwi and Kendwa offer soft white beaches and some of the island's best sunsets. Check in, kick off your shoes and let the beach-holiday part of your love story begin.
Day 5
Mnemba snorkelling and a sunset dhow cruise
Start the morning with a boat trip to the waters around Mnemba Atoll, known for its colourful coral, tropical fish and, if you're lucky, dolphins and sea turtles. Floating side by side above a reef is a memory you'll both keep.
In the late afternoon, step aboard a traditional wooden dhow for a sunset dhow cruise. As the sail fills and the sky turns orange and pink, raise a glass to the two of you. Read our full guide to the Zanzibar sunset dhow cruise to choose between a shared or private sail.
Love story tip: Choose a private dhow for complete privacy. We can add bubbly, flowers or a photographer to capture the moment.
Day 6
East coast adventures: Jozani Forest and The Rock
Head across the island to Jozani Forest, home to the rare red colobus monkey, found only in Zanzibar. Walk the shaded trails and the mangrove boardwalk, and watch the playful monkeys leap through the trees above you.
In the evening, enjoy dinner at The Rock, one of the world's most famous restaurants, perched on a rock in the ocean. Depending on the tide, you'll either walk across the sand or take a tiny boat to reach it.
Love story tip: The Rock is very popular, so book well ahead. Ask us to reserve a table for you as part of your itinerary.
Day 7
A slow morning and a fond farewell
On your final day, there's nowhere you need to be. Enjoy a late breakfast, a last swim in the Indian Ocean and a quiet walk along the beach before your transfer to the airport.
You'll leave with sand in your suitcase, spice in your bag, and a story that belongs only to the two of you.
Some places stay with you long after you return home. For many couples, Zanzibar is the place where their love story found its most beautiful chapter.
When is the best time for a romantic trip to Zanzibar?
Zanzibar can be visited most of the year, but the drier months generally bring the sunniest days, calmest seas and clearest sunsets. The long rains can bring cloudier days and fewer boat trips, though prices are often lower. Read our month-by-month guide to the best time to visit Zanzibar.
Make your love story even bigger: add a safari
Zanzibar is the perfect beach ending to an African safari. Many couples begin with the wildlife of the Serengeti, Kruger or the Okavango Delta, then fly to Zanzibar to unwind. Discover our honeymoon safaris and safari and beach holidays.

Where should couples stay in Zanzibar?
Many couples split their stay between Stone Town for culture and a beach area such as Nungwi or Kendwa for sunsets, or the east coast for quiet, intimate resorts. We can recommend the right places for your style and budget.
